Packing well is mostly about deciding early. Use this checklist a few days before you leave and you will spend travel day relaxed instead of searching for chargers.

One week before
- Check your airline's carry-on and checked-bag size and weight limits.
- Confirm passport or ID expiry dates and any visa or entry requirements.
- Check the weather forecast and plan outfits around a few colors that mix and match.
- Make sure your suitcase wheels, handle and zippers work smoothly.
Packing method
- Heavy items first, near the wheels, so the bag stays stable when upright.
- Roll soft clothes like t-shirts and knits; fold structured items like shirts and blazers.
- Use packing cubes by category or by day – it makes unpacking at the hotel fast.
- Fill the gaps: rolled socks fit inside shoes and in the corners of the case.
- Keep liquids together in a clear quart-size bag if they go in your carry-on (3.4 oz / 100 ml per container in the U.S.).
Carry-on essentials
- Travel documents, wallet and phone
- Chargers, a power bank and headphones
- Any medication you take, in its original packaging
- A refillable water bottle (empty through security)
- A light layer for cool cabins
- Comfortable socks for the journey – compression socks if you are sitting for hours
- A change of underwear and socks, in case checked bags are delayed
The night before
- Weigh your checked bag with a luggage scale.
- Put a name tag on each bag and a contact card inside.
- Take a photo of your luggage – it helps if a bag ever needs to be traced.
- Lay out your travel-day outfit, including socks and easy slip-on shoes for security.
